Employers push Joe Hockey for Fair Work probe



Employer groups are urging Joe Hockey to start the Productivity Commission inquiry into the Fair Work Act as soon as possible to ensure there is ­adequate time for public debate about any proposed changes to the workplace laws.

The push came as the royal commission into union governance announced it would investigate the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association.

The Australian understands the terms of reference for the commission inquiry are before the Treasurer after being finalised by Employment Minister Eric Abetz.

It is understood the proposed terms of reference are virtually unchanged from the draft terms of reference that were leaked in March, which indicated the inquiry would have broad scope to recommend changes to the workplace laws.
